Antique English Sterling Silver 44pc Rattail Queen Anne Hanoverian Flatware Set Presented is a fantastic quality vintage English sterling silver 44 piece flatware set. This set was made by Lionel Alfred Crichton Ltd and dates to circa 1916. The set is made in a wonderful antique style emulating silver from the early to mid 1700s, with a pronounced rattail design to the backs of the spoons, three tines to the forks, and pistol grip form handles for the knives. This pattern is known variously as Rattail, Queen Anne or Hanoverian. It has been produced by a wide variety of silversmiths over a range of hundreds of years, so adding pieces to this set would be very easy. The two largest spoons have a finely engraved crest of a hand holding a globe, as well as a number 1 on the heel on the back of the bowl. None of the other pieces have monograms. Please view the list below for a breakdown of all the pieces included. 12 dinner knives—10 5/8 inches. 12 dinner forks—7 ¾ inches. 2 large serving spoons—9 3/8 inches. 11 table/serving/large soup spoons—8 ¼ inches. 7 oval soup/place spoons—6 7/8 inches. Each piece is stamped with the English lion passant hallmark guaranteeing sterling purity silver, as well as the maker's mark LAC for Lionel Alfred Crichton/the Crichton Bros, the leopard's head for the city of London and a date letter, except for one fork which has a maker's mark of CWF (this fork is still English sterling silver). The date letters are mostly circa 1916. The knives are marked Crichton Bros, London & New York on the blades. This set is in great overall condition. Five of the knives have minor dents to their handles, but no splits or looseness. There are no monogram removals, and no repairs. We are including with the set a brand new fitted storage chest, as seen in the photos. The chest is wood in a rich dark walnut finish, with a velvet lined interior.
